Drop off a warm meal and get more than you expect.

Our staff are dedicated to the clients we serve today, and the clients we will serve in the future. We are here to serve, and we are here to stay.

Food and Shelter

The Human Resource Council focuses on two main areas, Food and Shelter. While our services expand into deeper needs for our clients, we acknowledge food and shelter as basic human rights.

The services we provide are dependent on active community members, businesses and ambassadors who champion those in the community who need it most. From food insecure to those living without a place to call home, we know that our services are making a difference in our neighbors lives.

Volunteering with Horizon House or Meals on Wheels consists of helping with events, weekly meal delivery for one hour a week, or daily involvement throughout our different programs. If you are looking for a place to serve in a rewarding and life-changing way, then you’ve come to the right place.

The Human Resource Council of Lamar County services more than ten counties collectively. We invite you to get involved!

Opportunities to volunteer

Meals on Wheels

Food and Shelter have been declared basic human rights.
With the help of our volunteers we are able to deliver more than 300,000 meals to food insecure senior citizens throughout our five county service area. We could not do this without our staff and volunteer workforce.

Meal Delivery

One of the most rewarding roles as a volunteer is our meal delivery fleet.
Meal Delivery Volunteers typically deliver once per week, but may deliver as little as once per month.

Delivery routes are approximately 10-15 homes, and will deliver on the same day each week. The meals are picked up from our kitchen as early as 10:30am, but not later than 12:15pm. Typical routes can be delivered in under an hour from start to finish.

Meal Delivery Requirements

  • Personal Vehicle with Insurance
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Completed and Authorized Volunteer Application
  • Complete Program Training Program with Staff
  • Signed Confidentiality Agreement

More Opportunities:
It takes a team.

Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:

  • Childcare
  • Transportation
  • Mentorship
  • Programming Support
  • Adult & Youth Tutoring
  • Events

Our volunteer program requires the submission of a complete volunteer application and passing a background check.

After being authorized as a volunteer, each individual will partake in a training program with our staff and agree to sign a confidentiality agreement.
